WHERE DID THIS IDEA COME FROM?

Young professionals, families and many others are being forced to move out of neighborhoods/cities they love for many reasons:

  • They can’t afford the housing costs

  • There is not enough housing stock available that suits their needs

  • Professional ambitions/income are not matched by opportunity

This is happening at an accelerated rate, and as a result these people need to supplement their primary income with a “Side Hustle.”

Americans have long embraced the “side hustle” – craft hobbies that create marketable goods or extra time that can be turned into a marketable service. Whether out of economic necessity or the stirrings of an entrepreneurial spirit, more people today are taking part in side hustles aided by expanding technology platforms. Ride hail services, home rental services, and sales platforms have all been developed to provide easier access to such side gigs. Events like city flea markets, maker fairs, and street festivals are now used as a launch pad for local businesses, and have become centerpiece community events.

FUN FACT

Millennials and families buying their first homes are likely to pay 40% more for these first homes than the Baby Boomers did two generations ago.

MAKE IT YOUR OWN

It’s time for the housing market to catch up.
We know that design alone can’t solve the housing crisis – but it can do better.

The Side Hustle House provides a comfortable house that is sized to be a “starter home” with adaptable spaces to support the possibilities of a growing family or a growing side hustle. Its flexibility and efficiency allows it to fit a variety of markets, and with minor modifications, this base plan can easily translate to compliment any regional style.

Based on your personal style or neighborhood, you can work with your local contractor to make tweaks to the design of the Side Hustle House. We encourage you to make it your own and share your Side Hustle House with us.
